Harry, My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel –A Tribute to a Devoted and Loving Companion (August 14 2009 – September 30 2020)

Harry, my beautiful King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and I became acquainted in late September 2012.  I was on my way to Eden to recommit my Message in a Bottle to the ocean (visit my 8 minute you tube, Anne’s Adventure).

I called into Rhonda’s place in Wollongong to meet my new dog. We decided to call him Harry, in memory of my Yorkshire lad, Harold and Prince Harry. Harold was a larrikin, a free spirit and a straight shooter. Harold and I met on May 28 1976 in Shellharbour and stayed together until September 30 2011, when he sadly passed away.  His memory was commemorated with Harry.

I collected Harry on October 8 2012 and he joined Raine (until March 31 2013) and Marietta (until February 20 2014). James and Lizzie then joined Harry until September 7 2018.  Lizzie was the naughtiest Cavalier I have owned; she was Miss Personality plus.

Some of these dogs kept me company, whilst I worked for many hours on my Moorefield Racecourse Kogarah .Sydney. Australia (1888-1951)  book during 2015 and the first part of 2016. I would often type to the dulcet sounds of my Cavaliers snoring!

Harry was a handsome dog, who had a wonderful temperament. He loved his walks, and most importantly his pats when he was out for a walk.  The ladies at the Bayside Nursery, Kogarah adored him and he loved their pats.  He loved his car rides and he sat on his cotton rugs on the front seat; he had his own seat belt to ensure that he was safe. He was inquisitive and wanted to know what was going on around him.

My handsome lad always slept on a cotton quilt at the foot of my bed. Harry had many creature comforts during his time with me. On the cold winter nights, he wore a warm jumper and I covered him with his rug.

During the early part of Covid -19, he increasingly loved his cuddles and his belly rubs.  He had his last doggy holiday with Rhonda in Wollongong in early September 2020, whilst I was in Port Macquarie. Sadly, in recent weeks his health has continued to decline. His heart weakened, and he had other health issues.

I will miss my wonderful boy, who gave me unconditional love for almost 8 years.

You will have joined Pepper, Angus McTavish, William, Raine, Marietta, Lizzie and James. Rest in peace my beautiful boy, Harry.

Your Master,

Anne
