On Monday April 15 2024 Maria , a long standing friend of almost 40 years, and I, drove to Shelly Beach near Bateau Bay for a 4 day , 3 night stay . We had booked for September last year, but had to reschedule due to my foot operation in late 2023, and the recovery period into January 2024.
Tuesday, we drove to The Entrance, called into Norah Head Lighthouse and had lunch at Norah Head in a lovely café. The Lighthouse runs tours, and it would certainly be a great place from which to view migratory whales. There are two cottages here, which can be hired out.
Then we drove to Soldiers Point. I am told that the restaurant in the Surf Club is very good. . The Soldiers Point Beach is beautiful .It was here that i saw my only Cavalier King Charles, a ruby. It appears that the Central Coast residents love dogs; however i kept seeing Cavoodles, Poodles and a few other breeds being walked by their energetic owners.
Wednesday , we drove to Terrigal , Avoca , Copacabana , McMasters Beach and then on to Erina Square to have lunch , and then do some shopping . It is a very large shopping centre.
Thursday, we planned to drive to Woy Woy. We did not make it! On the hills of Terrigal, my Toyota’s clutch died, and we had to be towed back to Sydney. Maria was dropped off in Chatswood, and we came through to a Car Service Centre in Hurstville, which i have used for over 40 years. I had rung ahead, and the mechanics were waiting for us. It was hard getting up into the tow truck, but much harder getting down. Fortunately, we had an uneventful drive in the tow truck back to Sydney. I entertained with funny stories of my travels, and the tow truck driver told us about his interesting working life.
There was so much to do on the Central Coast. We will return again in the near future to see Umina, Ettalong and Woy Woy. Along with a few other areas the next time, i guess that i will cope with all of the roundabouts! We loved Bateau Bay and the surrounding area.
Thank goodness for NRMA Premium Road Service, which allowed us to get back to Sydney along with my vehicle?
