Munro won on Rogilla in 1933, then Young Idea in 1937, Mosaic in 1939, Beau Vite in 1941 and in 1952 on Hydrogen.
Jack Purtell, who rode the Moorefield -trained Hiraji to victory in the 1947 Melbourne Cup, won the race 4 times – in 1950, 1951, 1954 and 1956. Brent Thomson, Hugh Bowman and Glen Boss have 4 wins.
The honour roll for this race has many distinguished gallopers and a host of repeat winners- Winx, Kingston Town, Phar Lap, Chatham, Young Idea, Beau Vite, Tranquil Star, Hydrogen , Tobin Bronze, Sunline, Field of Omagh, Northerly and So You Think.
