Life Under Covid – 19 Part Three

Spring is a colourful time for flowers

Since my part 2 Covid – 19 article, which was posted on August 13 2020, much has happened.

August 14 2020 was Harry’s 11th birthday. I took him to Bundeena, Sydney for a drive and to walk along the beach –we had a lovely day. Sadly, his health has deteriorated. On August 17 2020, the vet diagnosed that his heart had weakened further.  And on August 28, he was put on blood pressure tablets. Life has not been easy these past few weeks for my beautiful and loving companion, Harry. Sadly, on September 30 2020 he passed away. I will forever remember my beautiful boy.

Kathryn and I, had dinner on August 21 2020.  I learned then that our 2019 Georges River Council Mayoral Ball photo had somehow ended up on the Georges River Council’s website. It disappeared again after maybe 10 days. A mystery! However, as the photo has also been viewed on a number of occasions overseas, we now refer to the photo as that of “the 3 international pin up girls-Councillor Payor, Councillor Landsberry and former Councillor Field.”  (I maintain a tracker on my websites so that I can see where my posts are viewed.)

My Moorefield Racecourse video producer, Bob had been at Moorebank in late August visiting a friend. They were both flying their drones- their toys! Bob fell and broke his hip; he was admitted to Liverpool Hospital for a hip operation, and is still there 4 weeks later.

On August 29 2020, the delayed Tour de France started. I always enjoy seeing the wonderful towns and villages, castles and the countryside that the tour travels through. The cycling is always exciting.  Richie Porte, the Australian cyclist did very well to achieve third placing this year.

September 1-5 2020 my girlfriend, Maria and I drove to Port Macquarie to meet with my adopted koala, Lismore Rose and to catch up with Brian Peacock, a former Councillor colleague from Rockdale Council (1991-1999) and his wife, Volli. I have recently posted an article on our journey to Port Macquarie, and included some photos of my adopted koala along with other photos.  We currently only have the option of a road tour to see some of our lovely State, as interstate travel is largely still not permitted.

September 15 2000 was the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games .I attended the preview night on September 14 2000 along with some athletic events.  Harold and I attended the gold medal football match between Spain and Cameroon on September 30 2001- an exciting match with a great atmosphere. (I have watched Arsenal play on a number of occasions when in London, and I love the big match atmosphere)  We sat behind the goal posts, and the international press were in front of us. A great location for Harold, who always played his football in goals.

On September 17 2020, I had my first swim for 6 months –three cheers. I christened my new red chilli swimmers, which I had   bought in Port Macquarie. I had to book my one hour swim two days in advance. The pool has managed Covid-19 regulations well.

By the end of September, it appeared unlikely that Melbourne Cup functions will take place on November 3 2020.  Covid-19 has put paid to these traditional annual luncheons.

September 28 2020 was the one year anniversary of my overseas trip. I left Sydney on Cathay Pacific for Hong Kong for a few days, and then flew on to Amsterdam again for a few days.  Finally, I flew to Glasgow, Scotland to see my relatives, and to join a coach tour of Scotland.

Who could have foreseen what was to happen in 2020?  I am grateful that I went, as I got to see 90 year old Topsy in Amsterdam and my elderly relatives in Glasgow, Scotland and I made it to the Orkneys, at the top of Scotland. The Orkneys are a unique part of Scotland with amazing Neolithic history.

Both airline and accommodation credits on my cancelled 2020  holidays will be used up in 2021 in a trip to Tasmania. Lillian and I plan to see the East Coast, which will be on a small bus tour. I have previously visited the East Coast and would love to see the Freycinet again, as the scenery is stunning. Hobart with its beautiful heritage buildings is a lovely city to visit.

I would like to acknowledge those people around the world, who have read my website, annefield.net.au and written lovely comments about it on the contact page. I also have another website; annefieldauthor.com. I am delighted that my writing is enjoyed by many people.

Until the next edition, stay safe and well.

Anne
