Observations of Life under COVID 19 – Part 1

Harry, my furry mate has been keeping me great company.  We have walks and an increased number of belly rubs, it seems.   Cavaliers love attention and company, so the current time is a wonderful opportunity to obtain these benefits!

I particularly miss my weekly exercise class, and my weekly swimming to flex those now creaky joints…… I usually have a once a week walk along the walkway on the foreshores of Botany Bay, Sydney.    Walkers, cyclists and dog walkers are doing the same.

A friend , who is a Uber driver, assures me that there are 3 classes of walkers/ runners : those who have well-toned bodies ; those who are doing it for gentle exercise, and those who are trying to  “look active”  and are using  it  as a reason to leave home.

We can’t eat out, so the next best choice is to grab a takeaway from a local café for a treat. Unfortunately, we take our freedoms for granted, and now that it is restricted we need to find other things to fill in our time.

I have become a painter in isolation.  I have decided to repaint my bedroom. My initial colour choice was too bold, so I am planning a lighter version of the colour.  Painting is a therapeutic activity, and given the number of people in Bunnings, it appears that many others are doing the same to fill in the time. Households in Australia are likely to be undergoing work –those jobs that were put off until a later date are now being undertaken.

I have managed to also load to You Tube, part of my Moorefield Racecourse Kogarah  (1888-1951)  2 hour video, which was launched in April 2019.   There are 4 parts –the first part is titled Moorefield Racecourse Kogarah , the second part Anne Field interviews Dawn Coutts, the third part Anne Field Interviews Russell Town , local resident and the fourth part Anne Field interviews Cliff Clare, former jockey.

Any young jockey or apprentice would appreciate watching the interview with Cliff Clare, who is 90 this year. He talks of the many hardships he experienced in his early riding career. Russell’s interview highlights his impeccable memory at 87 years of age.

After my long list of jobs are completed, I will move to finishing my children’s book ……

Stay safe, stay well and stay focussed.  Stay connected to family and friends.
