Rockdale City Council’s new Library – July 28, 2016

THE CHAMPAGNE  CORKS ARE POPPING   AS   ROCKDALE CITY COUNCIL, SYDNEY  LAUNCHED  ITS  NEW LIBRARY ON JULY 28, 2016.

On July 28, 2016 Rockdale City Council launched its new $16 million Library and Customer Service Centre. This is a spectacular public facility, which will be well used and much loved by the local community.

The library has been well over thirty years overdue. Residents and staff had to make do with a less than adequate facility for so many years. Now, a state of the art facility has been built, and will take Rockdale forward into the technological future.

There were many small, and some major players, in Council achieving this goal. To those on Council, and in the community, who consistently supported this library project, congratulations. It is exciting to see that your belief in the project is vindicated with the end result.

On opening night, I thought of a number of former staff and my Councillor colleagues – notably,Mrs Margaret Austin,a former Manager of  Rockdale City Council  Library, and former Councillor Noel Seiffert ,a passionate advocate for the library in his terms on Council .

A library is so much more than books , and this library will show admirably its multi- dimensional features to the community. The new Rockdale City Council Library had done Council proud.
